The First of Many

Here’s the first of what should be a steady stream of blog entries.  I’d like to thank ScottW for getting me off my rear and starting something I should have been doing for years.  Thanks for space and the resources.

Status Update

Here’s some of the stuff I’m currently working on, and the latest info:

  • SVG# The SharpVectorGraphics open source project is coming along nicely.  Niklas and Kevin Lindsey have been busy adding lots of new code.  For those of you that don’t know of this project, it’s a bunch of libraries written on .Net that enable native SVG capabilities for the .Net community (think of Batik for .Net).  But it’s a whole bunch more than that.  The cool stuff that’s pretty stable at the moment is a SVG to GDI+ rendering engine.  Why is that cool?  How does persisting GDI+ objects as XML of the W3C standard SVG namespace hit ya.  Check it out.  And if you have any question/comments email me.

  • NJ .Net User Groups – I’ve been busy with both the established NJMSDEV and the new N3UG.  It’s a matter of thinking globally and acting locally.  We’ve got to get some synergy going between the groups, and not try to compete with each other.

  • GDN – Been busy posting a couple times a day and trying to help where I can

  • XDO – My .Net Data Access Layer is always in play.  One of these days I’ll post it somewhere you can get to it.  I’ve got a bunch of cleansing to do of the code base and make it ready for wide scale distribution.  Some of the cool features include a generic provider (that hides the provider specific code) that inherits from the System.Data base interfaces, a connection string encryption process that stuffs the strings into an external resource file, and a parameter class that is extended using Attributes, so that all your stored proc parms are only coded once.  Right now I only have an Oracle .Net provider “client” that handles the conversion of the generic provider to the MS .Net Oracle provider.  Kardax has a copy of the code and is written a SQLServer “client”.

  • SVG Open -  I should be doing a presentation with Kevin Lindsey on SVG# at the SVG Open in July.  It will be held in Vancouver.

  • PDC 2003 – Microsoft hasn’t been pushing this yet, but the PDC site has been updated to include info on the next conference.  Rumor had it that the next PDC was to be in the Spring of 2004, but it looks like they moved it up.  Yukon, and Longhorn are supposed to be the stars of the conference.

  • Don, XML, Rock *Box*. For a second there I thought maybe Don Box was blogging here ;-)

  • Scot, fixed the url. See ya at the PDC along with all the GDN guys.

Chad, sorry about the mix up. Guess I should re-think that blog title. Blog = Soap Box, mix that with a new Anthrax song called Cadillac Rock Box, and poof, the title for my blog. Got to come up with something better.

  • Sam,

I've been at every meeting for at least a year, and gave a presentation on SharpVectors at the Nov. meeting (it's on the archives if you were not there). I've also started to attend the North Jersey group (since I live up there).

  • Looks good man! You've got an extra "t" in your link to SVG#, though. As far as the website I will have some time at the end of next week to finally work on it. I'll send you a link when I have something to show.

  • Man... I can't wait for the PDC this year... what a show that will be!!!!
